David is a tax partner in Deloitte’s M&A Services practice based in Chicago. He has more than 25 years of public accounting experience, of which nearly 20 have been as a dedicated M&A tax specialist. He specializes in delivering tax consultative services related to mergers and acquisitions and other significant capital transactions, such as restructurings, dispositions, and debt workouts. He also works with his clients on transaction integration planning and execution. In connection with his work, David has developed expertise in maximizing the value of tax attributes, such as net operating losses and tax basis, as well as designing and implementing tax-efficient acquisition, financing, and exit structures.

In addition to his client responsibilities, David is the US M&A Tax leader of Deloitte’s M&A Services practice, he sits on the firm’s Tax Executive Committee, and he leads Deloitte’s Turnaround and Restructuring Tax service offering.

David’s deepest industry concentration is automotive.  His non-automotive experience covers a broad range of industries, with particular concentration in consumer and industrial products, packaging, business services, and SaaS.  His experience also includes aviation, retail, and oil & gas, in part from his extensive work on distress transactions.

Select clients served include ADM, Beechcraft, BorgWarner Automotive, Brunswick, CC Industries, Cargill, Continental AG, Corning, General Motors, Grainger, Gulftech International, Nine West Holdings, Penske Corporation, Samson Resources, Sears Holdings, The Riverside Company, Tower International, Triangle Petroleum Corporation, Underwriters Laboratories, United Airlines, and Verso.

David’s community efforts include being a member of the board of the Lawyers’ Committee for Better Housing, a frequent lecturer and instructor on M&A and other corporate tax matters, and an author of materials on debt workouts.

David is a Certified Public Accountant licensed in Illinois and Maryland, as well as a licensed attorney in Maryland. Moreover, he is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the American and Maryland Bar Associations.
