Tristan Axelrod is a partner in the Bankruptcy & Corporate Restructuring Practice Group of Brown Rudnick LLP. Tristan concentrates his practice in bankruptcy and insolvency proceedings and related litigation. Recent representations include: General and Litigation Counsel to BlockFi, Inc. et al as Wind-Down Debtors; Special Insolvency Counsel to the Plaintiffs Executive Committee in the In re Hair Relaxer multidistrict litigation, and Counsel to the Special Claims Committee of the Federal Oversight and Management Board for Puerto Rico.

Tristan has published extensively on insolvency and restructuring topics, including as a regular contributor to the Norton Annual Survey and Lexis Practical Advisory. He is the co-editor of Chapter 11: Bankruptcy, a treatise for Massachusetts real estate practitioners.  His scholarship has also appeared in law reviews and the American Bankruptcy Institute Journal. He frequently speaks on complex restructuring topics at symposia sponsored by, among others, the American Bankruptcy Institute and the Boston Bar Association, and has taught or guest-lectured graduate and undergraduate programs.

Tristan is recognized by Chambers USA in the Bankruptcy/Restructuring category, and by other legal guides including Best Lawyers and The Legal 500. In 2023, a client described Tristan to Chambers as “intellectually very strong,” and the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois described Tristan as “obviously an expert on bankruptcy matters.” He has been cited as an authority by Bloomberg and other media outlets and the federal judiciary. Tristan possesses undergraduate and graduate degrees in the fine arts and maintains an active practice as a visual artist.
