Miyoko has practiced in Mintz’s Boston office since 1998. Her practice primarily involves representation of mutual fund companies, investment advisory firms, insurance companies, and other institutional investors in connection with their investments in tax-exempt securities. Her particular focus is in the area of high-yield, tax-exempt securities, in both new money and workout transactions.

She has extensive experience in all areas of public finance, including general obligation bonds, revenue bonds, tax increment financings, securitizations of tax-exempt bonds, and project financings. Miyoko has represented institutional investors, bond insurers, and indenture trustees in workouts, restructurings, capital recoveries, and bankruptcies. She has served as bond counsel and underwriters’ counsel and has counseled clients on derivative products.

Before joining the firm, Miyoko served as a law clerk for the Massachusetts Superior Court, where she prepared memoranda and draft decisions on a broad spectrum of both civil and criminal law issues.

Experience

Represented the bond trustees as the senior secured creditors owed in excess of $330 million in Louisiana and $185 million in Texas in bankruptcy proceedings involving German Pellets and its US subsidiaries. We handled issues including: negotiating post-petition financing for each facility;   litigating issues involving the single largest off-take agreement with a UK company relating to the LA facility; litigating various issues against the unsecured creditors committee in each bankruptcy involving the rights, claims, and collateral of the bond trustee; negotiating proposed sale of Louisiana facility; and overseeing the various insolvency matters pending in Germany.
